To Eat or Not to Eat Part I: Nature Study at Thanksgiving

Because of our hectic fall, we missed out on hitting the pumpkin patch last month and, to my chagrin, I could not find any pumpkins for a pumpkin nature study. I read through the pages on pumpkin in the the Comstock Nature Study book for inspiration. We did the next best thing and studied another member of the squash family: butternut squash. We did an indoor outdoor challenge by studying the ripened fruit. For a practical application of what she is learning in pre-algebra, Pamela measured the circumference of the squash at its neck and its widest diameter, which she found to be 23.2 centimeters and 40.7 centimeters, and will calculate their diameters when we do math next week. I created my own nature journal sheet, not as fancy as what Barb usually does, but it worked for us. Pamela studied the fruit using her senses, and her observation that interested me most was that the squash smelled like carrots. With Thanksgiving looming, we decided to put the squash "fruit" to good use by roasting the seeds and making pudding.

We adapted a recipe for toasted pumpkin seeds to squash seeds. Scooping out the pulp with an ice cream scooper disgusted Pamela, so I pulled out the large seeds with my fingers. Since she disliked the sliminess, I gave Pamela a spatula, which she found awkward, so she finally dumped them onto the sheet. I loved her problem solving skills!

How did they taste? We had a hung jury. Had I not over-roasted them, I think they would have been quite tasty! We sampled the least crispy ones of the batch--Pamela found it nasty, but I think roasted squash seeds have potential, baring my tendency to lose track of the timer. Note: David has rightfully asked me not to burn the pizza on occasion . . .
The second thing we made with squash was pudding! I adapted a buttnernut squash pudding recipe by substituting coconut milk for the evaporated milk (the same trick I use for pumpkin pie) and brown sugar for white because I felt like it. Pamela helped me by squashing the squash and spooning it into the blender. I didn't mind doing the rest since we had accomplished so much with one squash. Does she still think butternut squash reminds her of carrots? Nope, she wrote on her sheet that it reminded her of P. P. . . . mmmmm . . . pumpkin pie . . .

Shake It Off

Broke-up can be 1 of da situation dat every1 need to face when it comes to relationship. Enjoying your partner company in relationship is 1 of da reason why we decided to stay in da relationship. But things will not always sweet in love...there will be ups and downs of it.

But when da break up "picture"arrived lovers need to be ready for any circumstances, especially for those to be dumped. The one who being dumped need to stay real in any conditions. I also believe, ending a relationship is da hardest thing to do.

People will tend to ask da question on how to deal with it....Aiseh, for those who rili think dat this is not da ending point to in relationship, they tend to SHAKE IT OFF..... Yes, just Shake it off. Break up is not da end of da world. I personally found dat girls tend to Cry over a split milk. OMG...Ladies don't do dis..I know it's hard to accept but you need to carry on with your life. What's happened is happend. Is no use to love some1 who doesn't love you any more. Keep your love for those who can appreciate it and love you da most.

To get better it is important to Shake it off, just let it go, move on with your life. Move on with your life is da most important event in ur life...along da way..you might found somebody who are fate for U....

The point here those who faced da situation need to love themselves and not trying to do anything in the end of the day will caused another problems.

Cry over it will be acceptable, but don't loss control, you da 1 who need to control da situation and not the other way around. Most of da time they said da girls will cry hard, but boys you also human being who is profoundly hurt and feel sad. Boys are not excluded to cry, cry if you need to.

Do not blame yourself if the relationship needs to end. It’s not your fault, relationships are complicated and most people go through rough times when it comes to relationships. If you start to blame yourself, you will get depressed and even lonelier. Think of the good qualities you have and be in the company of your friends who will always remind you of your good qualities.

While you built how to cope with da situation, this is also the time to enjoy and do things you want to do. You may discover new things or rediscover yourself. Give yourself time to heal and think things over.

Jamie Scott

JAMIE SCOTT – WHEN WILL I SEE YOUR FACE AGAIN

Here I Am, everyday
Since you said, you’d come again,
But it’s not fair, cos’ you’re not here,
I wait in vain, but nothing has challanged,
I’m a flower, soaking in the Rain,
If I could wish one thing, I’d hear you call my name,

Chorus
So when will I see your face again,
When will you touch my life again (ohh yeah),
When will I breathe you in again
I think I love you …will I see your face again,

Little thing, like the rain coming,
She looked at me a certain kind of way,
Tell me girl, where are you now,
‘Cos I don’t know how much longer I can wait,
I’m a dreamer, waiting for the sun,
When you’re coming in, I know my life’s begun,

Tell me girl…
When will I see your face again (ohh yeaaah),
When will you touch my life again (ummm um),
When will I breathe you in again,
I think I love you, will I see your face again,
You know that all my life I’ve been waiting,
Waiting for some, someone like you to love me,
You can’t come by like an angel, into my life,
And then fly away, fly away,

Oh honey, cos I, Uh baby, ba ba doo yeah, oh ooh,
Sing, I’ve only seen youuu, oh, I said, uh huh, I said I said, yeah (woo)
When will I see your face again (I wanna see you once in my life),
When will you touch my life again, (wanna see you twice in my life),

When Will I Breathe You In Again (ohhh),
I think I love you, will I see your face again,
I said, see bap pa da doo ba ba

Bap ba do yeach, that’s what we do yeaahhh
When will I see your face again my friend,
Oh yeach, I think you gotta let me know yeah,
Oh yeah

Memorize More - Outsource Less

"Try using your memory more," Stephen DeMaio cautions in the Mangement Tip of the Day at Harvard Business Publishing. Though today's technology opens a warehouse of tools to keep schedules, records of life - text, photos and other archives, we're relying much less on our brain to store these. Can you recall phone numbers you use often or can you picture a visual map of where the doctor's located, whom you visit yearly?

When calculators came on the scene, memorizing multiplication tables became less important. PDA's, smart phones and GPS devices eliminatied the need to memorize schedules or phone numbers and to dicipher maps.

Why does it matter? "What we're outsourcing to technology," David Bucci, Dartmouth College observes, "we're not relying on our brains to do any more."

If we learn to use technology and new apps, doesn't that stimulate the brain to learn to do new tasks? Yes, but there's a downside as well... "Recording everything you do takes people out of the "here and now," Barry Schwartz of Swarthmore College notes. "Constant documenting may make people less thoughtful about and engaged in what they're doing because they are focused on the recording process."

Here's the clincher about why committing more to memory and stimulating our working memory works in our favor... "The key thing is that the sedentary brain, just like the sedentary body, is going to atrophy," Bucci affirms.

Consciously challenge your brain to do more! For instance, create ways to turn boring tasks into fun at work. Memorize favorite scriptures, telephone numbers or friend and family birthdays.

As we age, the more we learn and put in our memory bank, the longer we'll enjoy mental acumen.
