As Others See Us

O wad some Power the giftie gie us
To see oursels as ithers see us! Robert Burns To a Louse (On Seeing One on a Lady's Bonnet at Church).

How do others see you?

Tammy Lenski uses a tangible tool, a Johari window, to help leaders see and understand more about themselves. A Johari window helps you spatially understand how self perception and others' perceptions of you influence group dynamics. It's made up of four quadrants, like a four-paned window.

Try the Johari window for yourself. First you'll pick five or six words to describe yourself and be sure to save it. Then ask friends and colleagues to click on your saved link to choose their words to describe you. In comparing results you'll begin to see truths you may not have realized.

Flip Side: How can you be the person you want others to see in you?

You might begin by considering the art of seeing you.

Ellen Weber shares that your mistakes can be solid stepping stones to change.
